Heungbu and Nolbu
흥부와 놀부
Long ago, there lived two brothers named Heungbu and Nolbu.
옛날에, 흥부와 놀부형제가 살았다.
Nolbu, the older one, was very mean and greedy.
형인 놀부는 아주 탐욕적이고 비열한 사람이였다.
The younger, Heungbu was very kind.
동생인 흥부는 아주 착했다.
When their parents died, they left a huge fortune.
그들의 부모님이 죽자, 그들은 큰 유산을 상속받았다.
Greedy Nolbu took it all.
탐욕적인 놀부는 이를 모두 가로챘다.
"I'm the elder one, so I deserve all the fortune."
내가 나이가 더 많으니, 모든 유산을 가질 자격이 있어"
Heungbu was poor but happy.
흥부는 가난했지만 행복했다.
Then, one day, Heungbu found a wounded swallow.
그런데 어느날, 흥부는 상처입은 제비를 발견했다.
"You poor thing, I will take care of you."
"불쌍해라, 내가 치료해줄게"
The following spring, the swallow brought a seed to Heungbu for thanks.
봄이되자, 제비는 흥부에게 감사를 표시하기 위해 씨앗을 가져왔다.
It grew into a giant gourd.
그것은 거대한 박이 되었다.
When Heungbu cut it open, treasures began to flow out and pile up on the table.
흥부가 그것을 잘라 열자, 보물들이 넘쳐나와 테이블위에 쌓였다.
Upon hearing the news, Nolbu grew jealous.
그 소식을 들은 놀부는 질투가 났다.
He decided to catch a baby swallow.
그는 새끼제비를 잡기로 결심했다.
His wife helped him, saying, "Catch that one, Nolbu! That one looks weak!"
그의 와이프가 그를 도우며 말했다. "그녀석을 잡아 놀부! 그녀석이 약해보여!"
They broke its leg on purpose and bandaged it.
그들은 의도적으로 그제비의 다리를 부러뜨리고 붕대를 감아주었다.
"Let's run away with the fortune when the swallow delivers us a seed! I don't want Heungbu to be richer than us."
"제비가 우리에게 씨앗을 전해줄때까지 피해있자. 나는 흥부가 우리보다 부자가 되는걸 원치않아"
Later on, the swallow dropped them a seed.
시간이 흐르고, 그 제비는 씨앗을 그들에게 떨어뜨렸다.
The gourd grew big.
그 박은 거대해졌다.
Nolbu and his wife cut it open, full of hope.
놀부와 그의 와이프는 희망에 가득찬 상태로 박을 잘라열었다.
However, instead of treasure, monsters were inside!
그러나, 보물대신에 괴물들이 들어왔다.
They jumped out of the gourd and hit Nolbu and his wife.
그들은 박에서 뛰쳐나와 놀부와 그의 와이프를 내려쳤다.
The monsters left them penniless.
괴물들은 그들의 재산을 탈탈 털어갔다.
Nolbu's wife ran away alone and took all the goods left in the house.
놀부의 와이프는 집에 있는 좋은 것들은 모두 챙겨 혼자 도망쳤다.
Heungbu heard the news and shared his fortune with his greedy brother.
흥부는 그 소식을 듣고 그의 재산을 탐욕적인 형제와 공유하였다.
"Nolbu, my brother, I believe everyone deserves a second chance, so I hope this experience will help you improve your life. Take this fortune and feed your children"
"놀부형, 내형제, 나는 누구나 두번째 기회를 가질 자격이 있다고 생각해, 그러니 이 경험을 통해 형의 인생이 나아졌으면 해. 이 돈을 갖고 자식들 밥먹여줘."
